XPAT SOFRA Kısa Özet
Thirty-three foreign women, five tables, one country. Welcome to Expat Sofra.
From the USA, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, and South Africa foreign women arrived in Turkey, were encouraged to eat, and tell their stories. Part cookbook, part foodoir, part travelogue, this anthology with intimate stories, delectable photos and appetizing recipes takes you directly into the Turkish kitchen by expats who earned a place there. A feast for the eyes, heart, soul, and stomach all in one. With Turkey at the crossroads between East and West, this book offers a different perspective using the medium of personal anecdotes, photos, and recipes to bridge a gap over common misconceptions. To experience and savor a unique place with parts Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, challenging stereotypes through honest portrayals in raw form. Locals too, curious of outside perceptions of their rich gastronomic heritage, can find common ground within these pages. Stories of obstacles, journeys, homesickness, adventure and adaptation. Funny, poignant, courageous, and flavorful these culinary tales satisfy all tastes. Armchair travelers, tourists, foodies, culinary artists, and expats, will all find a place at our table. Afiyet Olsun.
American writer Katherine Belliel and Italian chef Francesca Rosa have a combined 25 years of experience of being nourished by Turkish hospitality. They set the table for cultural interactions between expats and Turkish culture through the use of food, art, and words. Expat Sofra is at the collective heart of what they do.
